RUTHLESS PEP! Guardiola instructs Man City to get rid of Kompany

Pep Guardiola has reportedly told Manchester City to place Vincent Kompany on the transfer market.

According to The Sun, the incoming City boss has instructed sporting director Txiki Begiristain to look for suitors for club captain Kompany who was struck down by another calf injury during the week.

The Belgian centre-back, 29, has been plagued by soft tissue leg injuries which have restricted him to just 19 appearances in all competitions this season and Guardiola believes it is time for him to go.

Bayern Munich boss Guardiola is planning massive changes at City and was already looking closely at cleaning up the central defensive position following subpar showings from Eliaquim Mangala and Nicolas Otamendi and the likely departure of the ageing Martin Demichelis.

Kompany's latest setback, which occurred early in Tuesday night's Champions League Round of 16 second leg against Dynamo Kiev, is believed to have alerted Guardiola who is now questioning the player's resilience and may look elsewhere to fill the centre-back slot.

Reports suggest that the club is ready to splash £80million on Everton's John Stones and Athletic Bilbao's Aymeric Laporte.

Kompany arrived at City from Hamburg in 2008 and has guided the club to two Premier League titles, two League Cups and one FA Cup during his time at the Etihad Stadium.
