Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola chose to cut loose Joao Cancelo due to his negativity around the club.

Cancelo is now on-loan at Bayern Munich, where he can be signed permanently for £60m.

The Athletic says Guardiola chose to cut him loose after he openly aired his problems with teenage teammate Rico Lewis being selected ahead of him.

Cancelo had already returned from the World Cup with Portugal unhappy with his performance.

And his frustration increased as Guardiola preferred Lewis ahead of him when the Premier League resumed.

Guardiola has no interest in reintegrating Cancelo next season.
