Manchester City were close to signing Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi last year.

Cubarsi, 17, has been a revelation for Barca and Spain this season.

The podcast, Barça reservat, reports the central defender came close to signing for Girona with the view to joining Manchester City in 2026, through the affiliation between the two clubs.

In 2023, Girona approached Barça and sports director Quique Cárcel met with Cubarsí representatives over a possible signing.

But the youngster was not enthusiastic about the idea of leaving Barca and preferred to bet everything on the Blaugrana.
