Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany insists next weekend's clash with fellow title contenders Chelsea is not vital, but the team still wants to put one over their rivals.
Following City's impressive 3-0 win over West Bromwich Abion on Monday night, Kompany highlighted the importance of putting down a solid base by performing well at the Etihad Stadium against the reigning champions next weekend.
"We can't go into the game thinking it's about winning the league but it will matter so we need to put in a great performance," he told the club's official website.
"I don't think we'll be looking at points too much, but we want to beat them. It will be a good game - it's a big game so early on."
Chelsea will travel to Manchester to take on City on Sunday.
