Pellegrini labels last season a failure for City

Manuel Pellegrini has taken responsibility for Manchester City's failure last season.

The Manchester City boss has admitted that he was been unable to keep his players hungry last campaign, but despite this he has been awarded a contract renewal this summer and has managed to take the club to the next level again.

"I failed last season because I wasn't able to keep the competitive spirit inside the team," he said in a new book called Pellegrini's Methods.

"This hunger of triumph is fundamental in order to get results. It was clearly my responsibility."

Despite last season, Manchester City are back at the top of the Premier League this season, after bringing in Raheem Sterling, Kevin de Bruyne, Nicolas Otamendi and Fabian Delph for a combined cost of £150 million.
