Newcastle United are ready to launch a winter bid for West Bromwich Albion's Saido Berahino.

According to the Daily Mirror, the Magpies are preparing a £15million offer for the 22-year-old who continues to be denied regular playing time at The Hawthorns.

Steve McClaren is determined to strengthen his struggling squad this month and owner Mike Ashley is reportedly ready to spend up in order to avoid relegation.

Berahino has made just eight Premier League starts under Tony Pulis this season and continues to be linked with a January exit despite claims the West Midlands club have no intentions of selling.

The former England U21 star, who has 18 months remaining on his Albion contract, was wanted by McClaren last summer but the Magpies instead settled on Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Newcastle have already captured Jonjo Shelvey from Swansea City for £12m and Henri Saivet from Bordeaux for £5m this transfer window but are set to bring in additional players as they look to move out of the bottom three.
