Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth is pushing for the transfer of Sandro Tonali from AC Milan.
The Italian giants, who won Serie A a year ago, are set for a gutting of their squad this summer.
Per The Mail and other sources, the Magpies have all but secured Tonali for a mega fee.
Newcastle will pay a starting fee of £50 million, which will rise based on appearance and performance bonuses.
Tonali is someone who manager Eddie Howe wants at the very base of his midfield.
He would form a trio with Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton when everyone is fit at St. James' Park.
