Newcastle United have placed a bid for Leganes defender Gabriel Pires, according to reports from Spanish outlet Diaro Gol.

Newcastle United earned promotion into the Premier League this season in comfortable fashion but it is clear that the Magpies will need to strengthen their squad in order to be able to avoid relegation from the top flight next year.

Defender Gabriel Pires has consistently been linked with a move to St. James' Park in recent weeks and according to reports emerging out of Spain, it has been revealed that Newcastle have recently placed a formal bid for the Leganes star.
