Newcastle United legend Malcolm Macdonald says his old club are risking disaster over their striker options.
Supermac wrote in the Evening Chronicle: "Joe Kinnear is supposedly the man in charge of transfers and he told us in his last programme notes that United have strength in depth throughout.
"Well is that so, Joe? What about up front, the business end of a team?
"Newcastle have an on-loan player, Loic Remy, and two others, Papiss Cisse and Shola Ameobi, who haven't scored a single Premier League goal from open play between them.
"That's real depth isn't it?
"And it could get worse unless United get their finger out because if they don't sign Remy permanently in this transfer window - and they won't - then they have lost him.
"He'll go back to his parent club QPR and probably sign for a more ambitious outfit than ourselves.
"Remember, too, that Shola's contract is up in the summer, and unless there is an emergency United are prepared to let him go on a free."
