Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson says they thoroughly deserved victory over Manchester United on Sunday.
Wilson struck for the 2-0 win at St James' Park.
He said: "We were disappointed with the [Carabao Cup] final. It left a sour taste in our mouth. We had to put it right in front of our fans.
"As a striker all you can do is respond. A few weeks out of the team. All you can do is take the opportunity when it comes round. Nobody likes to be on the bench. When you get called on, it's the perfect way to respond.
"There's a long way to go. We're one step closer. It was important we carried the momentum from before the international break. Now we want to build on it. It's about wins. Draws won't be enough."
