Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez frustrated with manner of Crystal Palace defeat

Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez was left frustrated after defeat at home to Crystal Palace

Luka Milivojevic's 10th successful penalty of the season gave Crystal Palace a late win at Newcastle.

Benitez said, "No, my frustration today is that we lost a game that we deserved to win and it was a massive game.

"We did everything to win the game for 80 minutes, and we didn't do it and it's something that we have to learn, as I have said so many times, in the final third, the final decisions and manage the game, keep the balance.

"We talk sometimes about attack, attack – we were attacking, but at the same time, we have to be aware that they are very dangerous on the counter-attack.

"We did that for 80 minutes and after [the goal], we were not capable of managing the last 15 minutes at the end.

"You cannot give a team that is so dangerous two or three chances to play on the counter-attack in the last minutes. Even if you have to score, you have to keep the team well-organised and then regain the ball, like we did for 80 minutes.

"It was so disappointing because we were talking about that during the whole week and in the team-talk and it was very clear.

"It was clear for a while and then after when we made a mistake, we continued making mistakes in the last minutes."
