Banks, 18, is a target for the Eagles, who have been on his trail for months, says The Sun.

Banks will not sign a new deal and United have not been picking him as his contract runs out in the summer.

He is also out of the Scotland youth set-up as a result.

But Palace hope they can reach a compromise figure and land the promising youngster for their squad.

Fernandinho again filled in at centre-half on the day.

He said: "We just tried to play our style of football and our philosophy. In the first half we scored two goals and controlled the game but at the end of the game they brought on Benteke and he caused some problems for us but Ederson was superb to make the saves.

"They started to play long balls and high balls for their tall players. But if we scored the goals from the chances we created it would have been a different game."

On playing at centre-back, he added: "It was fine. In the first half we controlled out actions and didn't concede any chances. But in the second half we dropped our concentration but overall we were better and deserved the win."The Premier League is so tough, so hard, so we just try to win our games and do our job. We focus on winning every game. That is all we can do."

Palace lost 2-0 at home to City on Saturday,

But Cahill says: "I thought the second half was slightly better than the first half. I thought both keepers were outstanding. I don't know how Ederson kept out Benteke's header - it had power and direction.

"When they have good possession and you try and squeeze up the ball in behind is always available. We knew it would be tough. They killed us with the goals, obviously with the first but the second being so quick as well.

"I think the second half always opens up a bit because people get tired. You could sense Manchester City knew they had to win that and they did."

Despite playing midfielders Fernandinho and Rodri at centre-back, City could have won by a street and might have done if Wilfried Zaha had been punished for a push on Kevin De Bruyne.

Guardiola replied with angry sarcasm when asked about the incident, which VAR also ruled did not warrant a spot-kick.

The Manchester City boss said: He's diving. Every week he's diving. But against Tottenham it was handball in the 94th minute."

Guardiola was probably referring to the controversial VAR decision to deny Gabriel Jesus a stoppage-time winner against Spurs earlier this season, after Aymeric Laporte was adjudged to have helped the ball on with his arm.

Asked whether he was angry, Guardiola replied: Of course I am. For a long time."

The City star admitted that his landmark goal for the club had arrived with a hint of fortune, after his attempted header appeared to clip his shoulder before beating Wayne Hennessey.

"I tried a header, but I think it hit my shoulder!" Jesus said.

"I have to improve this side because I sometimes have difficulties with headers. What a cross from Bernardo as well.

"A little bit lucky!"

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has made a new right back a top priority following the summer departure of Kieran Trippier.

Kyle Walker-Peters, Serge Aurier, Moussa Sissoko and Juan Foyth have all been used since England international Trippier joined Atletico Madrid.

Spurs scouts are raving about Ferguson, who has been playing left back for the Baggies but can also play on the right, says the Daily Mail.

Crystal Palace are also tracking the 19-year-old.

The Brazilian striker opened the scoring at Selhurst Park, netting his 50th goal for the Club with a diving header and two minutes later David Silva finished a fine team move with a sweetly struck volley.

"We played well," Gabriel said.

"With and without the ball, that is great for us. Bernardo's cross was amazing, I am happy because I tried two or three times before to score.

"It is always difficult to play against Crystal Palace. We have to pass the ball all the time to try and score. They have good players.

"It is not just about this [game]. We have to do it all the time - thinking about winning. Of course, we can't always win. Sometimes football is like this and now is the time to come back strong."

After defeat against Wolves last time out, City produced a dominant display to ruthlessly dispatch a Palace side who came into the game in sixth place.

Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring at Selhurst Park, netting his 50th goal for the Club with a diving header and two minutes later David Silva finished a fine team move with a sweetly struck volley.

"As always, a good reaction - the team is always ready," Guardiola said.

"We play good at a stadium like this where they create a lot of chances. We concede two chances at the end when Benteke came on, they played a lot of long balls and always with the second ball they are strong.

"Unfortunately, we cannot convert enough chances we had and we suffered.

"Always in the Premier League at 2-0 it's never over. It's an important three points after international break, away at Selhurst Park is always difficult.

"They were one point below us, they are doing an incredible season.

"I am delighted. Hopefully we can start from here and continue with good performances."

The 28 year-old has been Roy Hodgson's main man this term, leading the line and scoring three goals already in a strong start to the Premier League campaign.

But he told the Mirror: Every footballer thrives on confidence and for us strikers we have a duty to put the ball in the back of the net.

When you don't do that and don't play well, of course the fans have the right to demand more from you. Last season was not the best and I want to correct that this season.

For me, I don't think I have done something big yet. I just have to keep working and the goals will continue coming.

"All I want the fans to know is that I might not be like the old fashioned strikers who are big and tall, but I have some qualities that can cause problems to defenders and I am working hard to show my full potential."

The Ivorian has been the star man for Palace since returning from a disappointing spell at Manchester United .

In the past when he struggled, the side struggled. But this season has been different.

Zaha had his head turned by lucrative transfer interest from Arsenal and Everton in the summer, but Ayew has no doubts about Zaha's form and his importance to Palace.

Everybody knows the kind of player he is and the qualities he has got," says Ayew to the Mirror. "In football there are tough times and good times but none of them last forever, so you just ride it out.

"You can see the way he is playing it's just a matter of time before he starts banging them in."
