Newcastle boss Pardew admits Alnwick or Woodman could face Burnley

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew could be forced to go into their clash with Burnley with a rookie goalkeeper.

The Daily Mail says goalkeepers Jak Alnwick and Freddie Woodman are on standby for their Newcastle debut with No 1 Tim Krul sidelined until next year and the wife of deputy Rob Elliot due to give birth.

Elliot came in for his first Premier League start in 18 months during Saturday' s 1-0 defeat at West Ham but manager Alan Pardew admits he could be called away at any moment.

That would leave Alnwick, 21, and Woodman, 17, as United's goalkeepers and both have travelled with the squad - depleted by injury and suspension - to Burnley for Tuesday's game.

Neither Alnwick - younger brother of former Sunderland stopper Ben - or Woodman - son of Magpies goalkeeping coach Andy - have ever made a senior appearance.

Pardew confirmed: "Rob is in the process at the moment, like a modern man, of having a baby, so that's an added complication.

"He's been sitting in the background for a long while. I've played him in cup games and he's done terrific for us. I really felt he needed the game on Saturday and I thought he looked a bit rusty really. It'll do him the world of good for Burnley."
