Newcastle boss Bruce urging Matty Longstaff to commit to long-term deal

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce is urging Matty Longstaff to commit to a long-term deal.

The 20-year-old has extended his stay at St James' Park until the end of the current campaign with his exiting arrangement due to expire next week, but is yet to indicate that he will be on Tyneside next season amid interest from Serie A side Udinese.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday morning, Bruce said: "It's the same as we were. Now the ball is certainly in young Matty's hands. I've gone public with it - I think we've made him a wonderful offer and for me, it should be his way forward in his career and what's best for him.

"I have said it many times now, that being a Newcastle lad and having the season he's just had, it's now his way forward.

"Of course, we all would love him to stay, but as young as he is, the players now, it's their prerogative. If they want to run down their contracts, then there's nothing much more we can do as a club.

"We've done everything we possibly can, the rest is now up to Matty and for him to decide."
