Newcastle United are battling Genoa for AS Monaco fullback Antonio Barreca.

Genoa have been linked with the former Torino defender.

However, Sky Italia says Newcastle are targeting Barreca, who turns 24 in March, this month.

Torino only sold him to Monaco for €10m in July, but he failed to make an impact with only nine competitive appearances, even if he did provide two assists.

He is expected to go out on loan or for close to the €10m transfer fee just six months later.
