Newcastle United are trying to hijack West Ham United's move for Nayef Aguerd at the eleventh hour.

The Rennes defender is reportedly set for a medical with West Ham after the two clubs agreed a deal worth £20m plus bonuses.

Toon have missed out on Diego Carlos and it is unclear if Sven Botman will move to St. James' Park.

The Express reports that Eddie Howe is now considering a late move fro Aguerd to fill his vacancy at centre-back.

The Hammers are trying to complete the deal for Aguerd by the end of this week.

Howe will be hoping the Moroccan has a changes his mind and chooses a move to Tyneside instead.
