Melbourne Heart knock nine past Loddon Mallee Lightning

New A-League club Melbourne Heart have smashed Bendigo club Loddon Mallee Lightning 9-1 in a pre-season friendly.

Brazilian import Alex Terra and former Newcastle Jets man Jason Hoffman both netted hat-tricks for the Heart and although they defeated a young local squad, head coach John van 't Schip was impressed with the performance.

"I saw a lot of good things this evening," he told the Bendigo Advertiser.

"We kept the ball well, our passing was good and we created a lot of chances.

"Our game last week against Everton and tonight's game have been pleasing. We're starting to play the football that we want to play."

The Heart's first match for premiership points is against Central Coast Mariners at AAMI Park on Thursday August 5.
