Man Utd great Robson urges Tottenham starlet Alli to continue showing desire

Bryan Robson has implored Dele Alli to start showing he really wants to come a world-class footballer.

The Tottenham Hotspur youngster impressed in midfield for England in Saturday night's 3-2 friendly win over Germany in Berlin.

Former Manchester United star Robson was thrilled with the way the 19-year-old went about his business but has urged him to continue showing he wants to be the best and not rest on what he has achieved thus far in his fledgling career.

"At Alli's age it's about desire. When the plaudits come, don't start thinking you are better than you really are," Robson wrote in the Daily Mail.

"Question yourself — how much do I really want it?

"There are countless players I've seen who get to Dele's stage and think they have made it. They end up chucking it away.

"The ones that make a difference are the ones who realise 'yes I'm good but I want to be brilliant', not just this year but every year. I want to be the best I can and never be satisfied.

"That applies to the likes of (Ross) Barkley as well as Alli. Barkley really excites me. He has pace, power, skill and that aggression.

"I want to see those two really fight for it. Seize the opportunity, grab it by the scruff of the neck and show you are not just another pretender - be somebody, be a winner."
