Manchester City midfielder James Milner has ducked questions over Joleon Lescott's club future.
The defender has been called into the England squad for this week's World Cup qualifiers.
Asked why Lescott has not been picked more by Roberto Mancini, Milner said: "That is a question for the manager but we are blessed to have a strong squad at Manchester City.
"The competition for places is always there and only the boss can decide that.
"But when I've seen him play, he's been strong - outstanding. He's experienced, a top player."
