Man City youngster Lewis outlines England hopes

Manchester City youngster Rico Lewis has outlined his hopes for an international call-up.

The midfielder, who can also play at right-back, has been hugely impressive for the Citizens over the past 12 months.

While Lewis is not an automatic starter, he does get his share of game time under boss Pep Guardiola.

He told reporters this week: “It's a dream every player will want to play at a big tournament for their country and a big tournament. If it comes, it comes, if it doesn't, it doesn't.

“I'm just trying to focus on myself. There's so many things I can get better.

“When they come back from the international break [England players], I always ask what it's like.

“Any information I can get, I will do. But I just need to concentrate on what I can do - it doesn't really matter, I just need to get better."

On whether he feels a different player to last season, when he was playing with the youth setup, he added: “I'd say say in terms of being the person, I'm the same. But as a player, it's almost impossible not to develop around the best players and manager in the world.

“At first [when you break into senior side], you get starstruck. Watching them from TV to sitting next to them in the changing room, it's quite amazing - but after a while you speak to them, they are normal people.

“They have been so welcoming so an easy transition."
