Manchester City are said to be leading the race to sign an Argentinian teenager.

The Mirror states that last season's treble winners are among the teams chasing River Plate starlet Claudio Echeverri.

City have sent scouts to watch Echeverri on multiple occasions already this term.

The source adds that a host of top European clubs are looking at the playmaker, who has drawn comparisons to Lionel Messi.

Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG, Juventus and the two Milan clubs are all in the mix for his signature.

City are likely to face some competition from Premier League teams to sign the teenager as well.
