Vincent Kompany will fly home from Manchester City's pre-season tour of Australia in order to be alongside his pregnant wife Carla as the couple prepare for the birth of their third child.

The Mirror is reporting Kompany will take the field for City's International Champions Cup game against Roma at the MCG on Tuesday, before immediately departing for the United Kingdom.

Kompany captained City in pre-season friendlies against A-League side Adelaide United and sister club Melbourne City on Wednesday and Saturday respectively.

However, the impending arrival of his newborn child will see the Belgium international miss City's remaining tour matches against Real Madrid and the Vietnamese national team in Hanoi.

Carla tweeted about the expected due date of the baby last week saying: "Just had some great news.. this time next week #incoming"
