Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is upset for Julen Lopetegui over his sacking at Real Madrid.

Lopetegui was dismissed on Monday night after Real's 5-1 thrashing at Barcelona the previous day.

Guardiola lamented: "I'm sorry for him because he's a good friend. He is an exceptional person.

"We played together at Barcelona and we have a great relationship. It's football and nobody escapes it.

"When we get bad results, we do not continue in big teams like Real Madrid or FC Barcelona."
