Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola admits his players have surprised him this season.

Guardiola says he's lost last season's core this term, but his players have continued to maintain their consistency.

“The fundamentals are the same," he insisted.

“Last season we played important part of the season with Rodri, John [Stones], Gundo[gan] and Kevin [De Bruyne]. This season we just have one player.

“The midfield has changed a little bit and players need to adjust something. These four, they can do it blindly. They know exactly what we need to do and be there.

“I'm really surprised in this situation that, because the core of the team is in the middle, we are where we are in Premier League and Champions League.

“So far we have been better than the other ones. Just today. We will see what happens in the future."
