Newcastle striker Marlon Harewood is determined to prove the Toon boo-boys wrong and show his true ability to the Magpies supporters. The on-loan Aston Villa striker has come in for plenty of criticism after only finding the net on one occasion since his switch to the Championship leaders.
He told the Daily Star: "When I came here I didn't expect to be treated like this but it's happened and I've got to deal with it. I've had a lot of criticism.
"People are entitled to their opinion but I try not to take much notice because it comes with the territory.
"I'm a professional, this is my job and I have to try and overcome it and change people's opinions about me.
"I knew there would be pressure on me and it hasn't been easy at times, but I still back myself.
"I have the ability to succeed here and that's what I intend to do. It's been hard at times and it's taken time to get going again."
Harewood's loan spell expires at the end of December and the striker says he would be happy to stay on.
He added: "If Chris Hughton wants me, I'd definitely want to stay.
"To be part of this group of lads has been fantastic and they have supported me through everything."
