Liverpool chiefs Klopp and Schmadtke agree to leave Van de Ven to Spurs

Liverpool are set to leave VfL Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven to Tottenham.

The decision has been made on the recommendation of new Reds sporting director Jorg Schmadtke, formerly of VfL.

Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung says Schmadtke and Reds manager Jurgen Klopp are in agreement that Van de Ven would struggle in the Premier League at this stage of his career. Doubts have arisen over whether the Holland U21 defender can handle English football's physical demands.

Instead, Van de Ven is set to move to Tottenham, where talks have been ongoing for some weeks.

Spurs hope to do business for around £15m.
