New York Red Bulls head coach Mike Petke has labelled the LA Galaxy as the best side his team has faced all season.
Bruce Arena's Galaxy moved to the top of the MLS standings with a stunning 4-0 victory over the Red Bulls at the StubHub Center on Sunday which prompted words of praise from Petke whose reigning Supporters' Shield side dropped to fifth in the Eastern Conference.
"It's the best team we faced all year, by a long shot," said Petke.
"[The gameplan] was to be organized and look to spring some counters. I thought in the first half it worked to an extent. I think we had two breakaways, another one or two half-chances and we didn't put any away.
"They capitalized on our mistakes, which was a theme I thought that we got rid of not long ago but definitely haunted us tonight, and they're a quality side."
The Galaxy moved above Western Conference rivals Seattle Sounders by virtues of goal difference and are now just four matches away from clinching their fifth Supporters' Shield and third since 2010.
