Jones happy with midfield role in Blackburn win

Phil Jones was pleased with his midfield performance in Blackburn Rovers' victory over Everton.

Four days after making his England Under-21 debut against Uzbekistan, Jones played a key role in the 1-0 success against Everton.

He told the club's website: "We can't ask for any more than three points on the opening day and there is no reason why we can't get three more points at Birmingham next weekend.

"I am happy to play wherever the manager wants me to and I am just delighted I could help us make such a good start.

"It was a screening role in front of the back four and I have occasionally played a similar position for the England Under-19s.

"It allowed me to get further forward a little later on, but it was important for us to keep a clean sheet and I am pleased I was able to help us achieve that."
