Janmaat says he cannot offer Newcastle colleague de Jong any extra support

Daryl Janmaat has revealed that he does not act an differently around injured Newcastle United teammate Siem de Jong.

The former Ajax star has managed just three appearances for the Magpies in his debut season because of a serious thigh injury as well as a collapsed lung.

De Jong is working hard to make a return before the end of the season but his fellow Dutchman Janmaat suggests it is futile to offer the attacking midfielder any help as he would rather simply get on with the job.

"Everyone knows how difficult it is to go from injury to injury," full-back Janmaat told De Telegraaf.

"That is very bad for him. I try to act normal to him. Extra support and extra attention does not work."
