Harry Kane proves Tottenham matchwinner in Sydney

Harry Kane struck the only goal of a spirited contest as Tottenham defeated Sydney FC 1-0 today.

The match was played out in front of over 71,000 fans at the Sydney Football Stadium.

Kane followed up his brace in Wednesday's win over a Malaysia XI with a first-half winner against Sydney, the beaten A-League finalists.

Kane fluffed his lines in front of goal three minutes earlier after Andros Townsend's clever cut back in the 39th minute.

But normal service was resumed two minutes before the break as he fired in an unerringly accurate finish following Erik Lamela's well-weighted pass.

Kane nearly doubled his tally in the 70th minute, his shot cleared off the line by Seb Ryall after tricky play from Nacer Chadli.

The England striker, given a standing ovation when substituted on 84 minutes, left the stadium with the man-of-the-match award.
