Guardiola expects Man City to 'fight' for title next season

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola insists his team will be ready to fight for the Premier League next season.

The Spaniard acknowledges they did not do a good job of defending their title this season, with Liverpool more than 20 points ahead at this stage of the season.

But Guardiola believes that with some strategic transfers and the return to fitness of key players, City will be a real challenger next term.

"There has not been much wrong with what we have done in terms of points and performance," said Guardiola, per BBC Sport.

He added: "We have ideas for the transfer market, then next season we will prepare to fight again. Out of the last nine (domestic) trophies we have fought for, we have won eight. That is not bad and I think next season we will do it again.

"Liverpool will remain the strong team they are but when we retained the title we were the first to do it for 10 years so you know how difficult it is to do that."
