From Stocksbridge to Halifax to England - 'You would never have thought it in a million years' says Leicester star Vardy

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has revealed that he sometimes finds his meteoric rise in the football world hard to believe.

The 29-year-old striker, who is currently the Premier League's top scorer with 18 goals, was playing for non-league clubs Stocksbridge Park Steels, Halifax Town and Fleetwood Town as recently as only four years ago.

Vardy has led his team to the Premier League summit and is certain to travel to Euro2016 with the England national team and admits he has to remind himself that indeed his rise to prominence is true.

"Yeah, I do have to pinch myself every day really but it has taken a lot of hard work to be honest," said Vardy.

"It wasn't nice playing and having to work full-time all day, so I had to put the work in at first just to get a half-decent club.

"It's a rise that I wouldn't have predicted to happen but it's credit to me for the work I've put in as well.

"You would never have thought it in a million years. But it has happened. It has all worked out well but there has been so much hard work put in it's untrue."
