Former West Ham boss Allardyce urges Koeman to put foot down at Southampton

Former West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce has advised Southampton manager Ronald Koeman to put his foot down regarding any possible departure from the club.

According to reports, Tottenham target Victor Wanyama has submitted a transfer request whereas Sadio mane has been subject to interest from Manchester United.

The Saints have already seen Nathaniel Clyne and Morgan Schneiderlin depart from the club during summer and Allardyce feels it is time for Koeman to make a stand before he loses more vital members of his squad.

"From Ronald's point of view, he needs to put his foot down," Allardyce told Sky Sports' Ed Chamberlin's audio blog.

"He's the manager of the football club and he needs to say 'if you want me to carry on progressing, you've got to stop selling my best players'.

"You can't keep selling as many good players as they've sold and replace them with players as good, never mind better. That's almost impossible, what's happening at Southampton.

"The way forward for Southampton, and especially for the fans, is to see what they saw last year and be just as good, if not better.

"The way they've sold this summer, I'm not sure that's going to happen, which is very sad for the club and Ronald particularly, having made his mark last year in the Premier League.

"You have to be very careful as a football club when you keep selling your best players and you cannot keep expecting the manager to replace them with as good players at lesser prices."
