Fleetwood chairman Pilley backs Leicester for title because 'Jamie Vardy wins leagues'

Fleetwood Town chairman Andy Pilley is confident that Jamie Vardy will lead Leicester City to the Premier League title this season.

The 29-year-old striker, who played for Fleetwood in 2011-12, has previously won league titles with Leicester (in the Championship), Fleetwood, Halifax Town and Stocksbridge Park Steels, which leads Pilley to believe that Vardy will inspire the Foxes do so in the Premier League this season.

Pilley told the Daily Mirror: "Jamie Vardy wins leagues, whether it be Halifax, Fleetwood or Leicester.

"Leicester won the Championship and it looks like they are going to go on and win the Premier League. It cannot be coincidence. I really fancy Leicester to get over the line.

"Jamie's desire and work-rate becomes infectious to the rest of the team and having that is such a powerful ingredient.

"Leicester all play without fear and I don't think Leicester are going to wobble with the likes of Jamie. He believes in himself, has exceptional ability on top of that and exceptional speed.

"He is a tough character who won't be intimidated and he seems to keep improving. He takes the chances he creates or his team-mates create for him. He will help enormously win trophies for your club.

"I don't think such raw pace exists among any other player in the Premier League. He gives you ability to play that ball over the top every time, which is what defenders hate."
