Ferguson grateful to De Zerbi after scoring in Brighton win at Everton

Evan Ferguson was delighted to be on Brighton's scoresheet for their stunning 4-1 win at Everton last night.

The 18-year-old striker marked his first top-flight start with a close-range strike as Albion swept Everton aside 4-1. It came three days after he netted against leaders Arsenal in the 4-2 defeat.

“It was a lot different scoring and then being able to celebrate than trying to get the ball out of the net so we could get started again!" admitted the Republic of Ireland international.

“I think I'll remember my Premier League start for a long time. We bounced back from the Arsenal game, and it was a great result.

“We came in at half-time knowing we could do even better. We tried to give it our best and luckily the goals came and was brilliant to get on the scoresheet again. Four goals away from home at Everton is good work by us."

Roberto De Zerbi praised the teenager's performance after the match and Ferguson is pleased to be rewarding the head coach's faith in him.

“It's the manager's decision to play me, but I feel comfortable at this level. The other lads push me every day in training, we keep working hard on how we want to play."

Ferguson became the first teenager to score in back-to-back Premier League goals since Federico Macheda of Manchester United in 2009.
