Ex-Spurs boss Sherwood: Kane sale to Leicester was close

Premier League giants Tottenham reportedly considered accepting a £600,000 bid for Harry Kane many years ago.

Their former coach Tim Sherwood has spoken about a time in 2014 when Kane was in demand.

Leicester City were seemingly offering the sum for the now England captain, with Spurs ready to accept.

"They had a bid lined up from Leicester to sell him for £600,000, which I obviously resisted and said there's no way the boy is going to go for that," Sherwood told talkSPORT.

"In my opinion, he would have eaten £600,000's worth of food since he's been 10 years of age at the club. It (would have been) an absolute nonsense to let him go for that.

"I don't know if (Levy) was prepared (to sell), but Daniel put it to me - with Franco Baldini sitting there - that it was on the table.

"I think Daniel, in the end, had to take the trust from someone. The trust came from Harry getting in the team the next day and subsequently scoring three in three games.

“I think he realised either the price tag has got to go up, or maybe this kid might be good enough for Tottenham's first team."
