Ex-Newcastle keeper Cook accepts Peru offer

English goalkeeper Mark Cook has received an offer from Peru.

The Evening Chronicle says Nobby Solano has offered Geordie goalkeeper Cook a major opportunity in Peru - signing him for Primera League club Universitario de Deportes.

Solano, who was appointed manager of the Estadio Monumental side last month, worked with the 23-year-old at Newcastle United and Hartlepool United.

Solano revealed: "He is still only a young lad in goalkeeping terms.

"He was unable to get his chance at Hartlepool and was at Newcastle beneath some great keepers like Shay Given and Steve Harper.

"It is a really good opportunity for him in Peru."
