Manchester United hero Andrei Kanchelskis feels Sergei Pinyaev needs to leave Russia to fulfil his potential.
A regular trialist with United as a teen, Pinaev now plays for Lokomotiv Moscow.
Kanchelskis told RB Sport: "Without European cups and international matches, it is more difficult for young footballers to progress. You have to play with the best to reveal your talent.
"Competition and more competition is the only way to become great football players. The current generation of players are unlikely to achieve major success because they are deprived of contact with European football.
"The same Pinyaev could have reached a fundamentally different level if he had played in the Europa League, Champions League, Euro qualifying, he could have become the new Arshavin. And by playing only in the RPL, Pinyaev is doomed to slow down his development and bury his talent."
