Former Gold Coast United striker Shane Smeltz admits he is enjoying life in Turkey.

The New Zealand international has found a new home with Turkish Super Lig outfit Genclerbirligi and says life is good at the moment.

''It's a good place, it's worth going for a holiday,'' Smeltz told The Dominion Post.

''There's nice food and the people are good as well. I'm surprised, after the first couple of weeks I've settled in really well. The club's treated me brilliantly and I've just had to get there and focus on football.''

Smeltz, who is back home for an international double header for the All Whites, didn't want to say too much about his failed move to Chinese Super League club Shandong Luneng but says that everything has worked out for the best.

''If you look back on most things you could probably do things different, but the most important thing is I'm happy where I am now. It's worked out well for me and I just want to look forward now, you know," he added.
