Alloa Athletic manager Paul Hartley is in talks with Inverness Caledonian Thistle regarding their coaching vacancy.
The 37-year old former Celtic, Hearts and Bristol City midfielder has led the Wasps to the Scottish Championship on the back of two successive promotions and is the number one target for Caley who recently lost Terry Butcher to Hibernian.
Alloa chairman Mike Mulraney said: "We never comment on any speculation about our manager's position and other jobs.
"We would only say if a club came forward who we deemed appropriate and asked for permission to speak to him, we would say yes.
"That's it. That's the whole extent to where we are as a club. That's our official position.
"We would give Paul consent to speak to any appropriate club."
It is believed that Hartley spoke with Caley chairman Kenny Cameron on Wednesday and is at the front of the queue for the job which has had more than 50 applicants.
