Everton midfielder James Garner has revealed the 4-0 thrashing to Aston Villa has prompted huge talk at the club.
Many of Everton's players had come into preseason with a very optimistic mindset.
However, the Goodison Park club appeared to have started as they finished last term, looking like a relegation candidate.
Of the loss to Villa, Garner told the Liverpool Echo: “It was a tough afternoon. The team started off alright in the first 10 minutes and then went downhill after that and with us conceded two goals in both halves, it was a bad day overall.
“We were so excited to have Dom [Calvert-Lewin] back in the team and for him to go off so early, it was a massive loss for us. There's another 10 out there and subs, though, so there are other people who can do the job.
“There was a lot of talk in the changing room. I've only been here for a year but a lot of the lads have been here for quite a while now.
“Some lads have suffered for two years now in this team and have lost quite a few games that we feel we should be winning. We had a big discussion after the game, now it's time to put things right and hopefully this is the season to start that."
