New Everton chief Marcel Brands says Wayne Rooney will be welcomed back in a coaching capacity.

Brands says Rooney will be allowed to leave for DC United this month.

But he insisted that Rooney will be welcomed back to Goodison when he finally hangs up his boots...and held out the hope of a coaching job.

“The only thing I have to say to him is if he wants to come back the door will always be open for him," he said.

“I did the same in PSV with players like Van Nistelrooy and Mark van Bommell and I think Wayne is big legend here at the club and I hope that when he comes back from the States he will come back to Everton."
