Southampton assistant manager Erwin Koeman praised the Saints fans following the club's Europa League victory against Vitesse.

1,500 Southampton fans travelled for the game in Holland which was marred by pre-game clashes between the fans.

However, Koeman opted to look on the bright side as the south coast club get set to kick off their Premier League campaign at St James' Park this weekend.

"I think our supporters were amazing like last week the Vitesse supporters," he said.

"Of course they are looking forward to the draw as we are also, and then going to Newcastle and it starts on Sunday.

"We are looking forward to going to Newcastle."
