Dier makes no excuses as Tottenham fall to lowly Newcastle

Eric Dier has admitted that Tottenham cannot have any complaints their 14-game unbeaten run was ended in a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs stay fifth in the table after their succumbing to their second defeat of the season and Dier is adamant that he and his teammates can only blame themselves for their failure to press home their advantage.

"There are no excuses. We knew they would come here and play that way - most teams do," he told the club's official website.

"They made it hard for us but we have to break them down. Everyone is disappointed, it's normal.

"It hurts everyone. We want to win more than anyone," Dier insisted.

The 21 year old admitted Spurs took their foot off the pedal after the break.

"In the first half we played very well and we could have been two or three up, their goalkeeper made a lot of good saves.

"In the second half we know we've got to come out with the same intensity and try to kill the game and we haven't done that."
