Dead man walking: Lopetegui takes charge of Sevilla against BVB as Sampaoli prepares for Thursday training

Jorge Sampaoli has committed to Sevilla.

The former Olympique Marseille is set to replace under pressure Sevilla coach Julen Lopetegui, says Ok Diario.

Lopetegui will sit on the Sánchez Pizjuán bench this Wednesday to direct Sevilla against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. But it is expected to be his last game as coach of the Andalusians.

Sevilla have already made the decision to dispense with the Spaniard and bring in Sampaoli, who is expected in the city on Thursday to take charge of the team... even without having announced the dismissal of the Gipuzkoan.

At today's Champions League presser, Lopetegui said: "Out of respect for my main responsibility, I am not going to express my opinion about what has happened these months. I prefer to keep it to myself and face tomorrow's match with maximum energy.

"You don't give away 170 games by chance in a team as demanding as Sevilla, you have to win a lot to play 170 games. I will continue to be faithful to what I have done because I believe that I must live up to the demands of the club and our fans, who deserve the best of all those responsible for the club. For my part, I will give the best of myself in the responsibility that falls to me.

“Tomorrow we play a Champions League game, which is tremendously demanding. One does not go to hard battles with melancholy or doubts. While I am in front of my players I try to convey responsibility and trust."
