De Zerbi outlines his ambitions for Brighton

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi has never been one to shy away from a comment.

The Italian is known for the passionate way he interacts with his players and coaches during games.

De Zerbi has also been forthcoming with the British press when asked tough questions.

For instance, when asked about other clubs taking an interest in him, De Zerbi stated previously: “We are happy because the people are speaking about our quality of play and we are proud.

“We can only be focussed on the next games, we have a clear focus, a clear target and for the players and me it's the same. I have a long contract with Brighton, I am happy to work here, I am enjoying working with these players. I am delighted for the performance of my players, I can't ask more because it's a good moment of my life."

He added on midfielder Moses Caicedo renewing his contract, when he had wanted to leave in January: “I was honest with him and I told him what was my opinion and my idea. I spoke with him about my vision, but not for my interest or for the club, but for his interest.

“I spoke like a father because he is young, I have two children who are almost the same age, if I can help my players, that is my work. I think he's a good guy and it can happen to think in a different way. But if you trust in your player, you have to believe in him. You have to give him your opinion and idea to make the right decision. For him, it was important to stay at least another six months, I hope another two years. But first to finish this season with his team-mates and club, it's important for him."

On how high the club can aim, he recently said: “In the dressing room, I decide our target and I hope the players believe in me when I speak. Football is very nice because on the pitch you can be with money or without money the same. There are 22 players, one ball, and you have to fight to win. The shirt is not important, it's important what you have to do on the pitch. I think for the moment we deserve our place in the table."
