De Jong: Man Utd spoke to Barcelona, but I...

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong admits turning down Manchester United last summer.

United manager Erik ten Hag pushed hard to sign his former Ajax star before the start of the season.

De Jong recalled to NOS: "The club is in a difficult situation and they could make a lot of money with me.

"But I wanted to stay. Manchester United spoke with Barcelona, but I didn't want to leave.

"If things continue to go well with me and with the club, I would like to stay here for as long as possible. Sometimes I miss family and friends."
