Chelsea defender David Luiz admits he urged Kepa Arrizabalaga to accept his substitution during their Carabao Cup final shootout defeat to Manchester City.
Blues boss Maurizio Sarri wanted to bring on Willy Caballero in the closing stages of extra-time as their final with City was heading for penalties.
However, Kepa, who earlier received treatment for cramp, defied orders and refused to come off.
Luiz attempted to persuade his pal to leave the field and said: “I told him to respect the decision of the coach."
However, his advice fell on deaf ears as Kepa stayed on but was unable to help them to victory in the shootout.
