Celtic have confirmed Alan Thompson as their new first team coach. The 36-year-old spent seven years as a player at Parkhead between 2000-07.
Thompson parted company with Newcastle after two years earlier this month amid speculation he was set for a return to Celtic.
He was academy coach during the 2008-09 season at St James' Park, before working as a reserve-team coach last term.
The former midfielder enjoyed a successful playing career at Celtic, helping them to the UEFA Cup final in 2003 during Martin O'Neill's tenure.
