Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi claims Tottenham counterpart Cristian Stellini insulted him as both men were sent off on Saturday.
The pair were shown red cards after a melee on the hour mark between the two benches.
It's been suggested De Zerbi took issue with Stellini's praise for predecessor Graham Potter, which was played up in the Italian press.
He has had two red cards and four yellows in 12 matches and he could now face a third ban.
"I am sorry. But in my career it was the first time so many red cards," he said.
"If you look at my career, you can't find so many red cards... maybe I changed league and I have to change habits."
He added: "We played two games with me in the stand and we won both games."
